The Middlefork of the Salmon in central Idaho is one of the premier wilderness river sections in the world. flowing south to north from the base of the Sawtooth mountains to eventually confluence with the Main fork of the Salmon. At one point it flows through what is known as Impassable Canyon with the entrance moving through towering granite gates.
